HISTORY OF LA MAGDALENA
Successful attempts to bring/recreate the ancient varieties of cacao brought during the 16th and 17th centuries. These varieties come mainly from Venezuela and Mexico. The first farms were located in Haina and the Eastern region (Hato Mayor, El Seibo, and Higüey)
La Magdalena is located in the Sánchez Ramírez province, in the Cibao region of the Dominican Republic. This estate is named after “Día de la Magdalena” which was the day the farm was bought by Rizek Cacao S.A.S.
Our crowning achievement, light breaking cacao…
Bred in this single estate, few of these cacaos have survived in the Dominican Republic but we have managed to rescue and restore their DNA. These clones have high productivity and organoleptic quality: fresh and dried fruit, flowers, chocolate acidity, bitterness and astringency.
