La Esmeralda is one of the first farms in the country planted with elite cacao varieties brought from Trinidad & Tobago and Costa Rica. It is one of the most recognized and iconic cacao farms in the world. Located in San Francisco de Macorís, Duarte Province, this estate belongs to the Denomination of Origin Los Bejucos, an official denomination established since 2012.
Founded by Héctor Rizek Sr,. Hacienda La Esmeralda was the first cacao farm owned by the family. The exceptional flavor profile for this chocolate reflects the formidable quality of the cacao beans, and the meticulous preservation of the estate. With an extension of almost 112 acres and trees that are over 40 years old, La Esmeralda produces approximately 1,200 kg on a yearly basis.
